The Dam Duck Race is serious business in Hobart.
The Hobart Parks Department releases 1,200 rubber ducks over the dam in Festival Park. The ducks are numbered and the numbers correspond to "Dam Duck Tickets" that are sold by The Humane Society of Hobart.

These "Dam Ducks" then race down stream and are carefully monitored by race officials. They make sure none get lost, tangled up, or lost by a far worse fate. The officials also determine the fastest duck to make it to the finish line. The first 3 ducks to cross the finish line earn serious cash prizes for the winning ticket owners!!
